Overview

Sri Lanka is a Southern Asia island in the Indian Ocean, South of India which comprises 64,630 sq km of land with a coastline of 1,340 km. The terrain is mostly low, flat to rolling plain with mountains in South-Central interior rising up to the highest point at Pidurutalagala of 2,524 m.

The climate is tropical monsoon with the North-East monsoon running from December to March and the South-West monsoon from June to October. The annual rainfall averages 2540 mm with extremes of 5080 mm in the South-West of the island to 1250 mm in the North-West and South-East of the island.

The Legal and Land Department maintains registers, maps and other records in respect of all interests and instruments.

The public documents can be viewed at the Registrars Office and copies made by paying a fee.
